A new community event will combine a day of fun and fitness with honoring cancer survivors and raising money to support cancer patients. The “2024 Super Hero 5K, Kids Fun Run and Super Hero Walk” is designed for all ages and includes a survivor parade.
The event is being hosted by the Owensboro Health Foundation and Owensboro Health Healthpark and will benefit the Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center patients.
The event will feature three main activities:
- 5K Race: Starting at 7:30 a.m., with a $25 early bird entry fee until September 1 ($35 after that date).
- Kids Fun Run: A free event at 9 a.m. for the first 200 registered kids, who will receive a T-shirt and medal.
- Super Hero Walk & Survivor Parade: Beginning at 11 a.m., this team event celebrates cancer survivors. Entry is $25 per person, with teams encouraged to raise $500 or more to support cancer patients.
All participants can enjoy awards, prizes, food, entertainment, and other activities. Attendees are encouraged to dress as their favorite superheroes while supporting a meaningful cause.
“We are thrilled to host the Super Hero 5K, Kids Fun Run, and Super Hero Walk for the first time,” said Cathie Medley, Owensboro Health Foundation’s Manager of Annual Giving. “This event will not only bring our community together for a day of fun and fitness, but it also supports the vital programs and resources for our cancer patients at Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center. Every participant, volunteer and sponsor helps make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.”
Organizers said this year’s event continues Owensboro Health’s tradition of celebrating health and wellness through run events and adds the opportunity to honor cancer survivors and benefit a worthy cause.
