Daviess County Public Schools has received a $54,000 grant from Cargill to establish food pantries at each school location in the district, providing vital support to families in need.

The school-based food pantries will provide a range of non-perishable food items and essential supplies, readily available to students and families. The initiative aims to remove barriers to learning by addressing basic needs and fostering a supportive environment where students can thrive.

This funding will be managed through the Family Youth Resource Service Centers (FRYSC) at each school. The FRYSCs will collaborate with school staff, community organizations, and volunteers to oversee the pantries.

DCPS Assistant Superintendent of Human Services Dr. Caleb York said the initiative aligns with DCPS’s mission to support the whole child by addressing both academic and well-being needs.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have community partners like Cargill who are committed to making a meaningful impact on our students and families in the Owensboro-Daviess County area,” York said. “We deeply appreciate Cargill’s generosity. This grant will significantly enhance our efforts to support students and families experiencing food insecurity. By collaborating with Cargill, we can further strengthen the resources offered by our Family Youth Resource Service Centers and continue our commitment to ensuring every student has the essentials they need to succeed.”
