A discounted microchip event will be available to the public as part of “Pups in the Park” on September 21.

The microchip service will be available for a special rate of $10. Owners can bring their dog(s) to Panther Creek Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day. Staff will be set up inside the Feather Landing Shelter.

A microchip will permanently identify your pet when they get lost or if they’re ever stolen. No surgery or anesthesia is required to implant the device.

It is a small, electronic chip enclosed in a glass cylinder that is about the same size as a grain of rice. It functions as a radio-frequency transponder that carries a unique identification number. When the microchip is scanned by a vet or shelter, it transmits the ID number. The microchip does not have a battery or any moving parts.

Pups in the Park is a new event coming to Panther Creek Park on September 21-22.  Highlights include a dock diving competition, American Kennel Club (AKC) events, trainer demonstrations, kids’ activities, and food trucks.

Pups in the Park is sponsored by Visit Owensboro with support from Daviess County Fiscal Court, Kentucky DockDogs, and the Owensboro River City Kennel Club.
