Whitesville’s St. Mary of the Woods Church Picnic, scheduled for September 29, will proceed as planned, but due to inclement weather, the event has been relocated to the Horn Community Center (HCC).
Initially set to take place on the parish grounds, the picnic will now offer many of its traditional activities indoors. Fr. Brian Roby, pastor of St. Mary of the Woods, expressed the event’s importance to the local community.
“This picnic means so much to our parish and the community,” Roby said. “We’re glad to still be able to gather, rain or shine, and continue this cherished tradition.”
The HCC sits adjacent to the church, and Roby said the community can still look forward to all the picnic staples. Drive-thru sales of chickens and whole Boston butts will be available in front of the HCC, beginning after the 7 a.m. Mass.
Hamburgers, hotdogs, pork sandwiches, chips, drinks, and ice cream will be served out of the concession stand starting at 11 a.m. Entertainment throughout the day will include live music and a talent show at 2 p.m. on the HCC stage.
All other favorite picnic activities – such as the country store, cake stand, ring toss, grab bags, bingo, lucky duck, quilt raffle, and picnic raffle – will be set up inside the community center.
Drive-thru meat prices are $14 for chickens and $50 for whole Boston butts.
Roby encouraged the community to come out and support the picnic, despite the weather changes, and enjoy a fun-filled day indoors with family and friends.
