The Owensboro Symphony will host its fifth annual Symphony Stroll on September 27. The free community event invites residents to enjoy a relaxing evening along the Owensboro riverfront while listening to live performances by talented ensembles from the Owensboro Symphony.
The event, presented by Jagoe Homes, will run from 6-8 p.m., stretching from the Allen Street gazebo to Lure Seafood & Grille and with ensembles performing along Smothers Park.
“We are thrilled to bring the Symphony Stroll back for the fifth year,” said Gwyn Payne, CEO of the Owensboro Symphony. “This event has become a favorite. People love the casual atmosphere and being up close and personal with the musicians.”
Attendees can stroll the riverfront and stop to listen to performances by brass, woodwind, string, percussion, and jazz groups. Each ensemble will play a different style of music, ranging from classical and orchestral to jazz and ragtime.
“There is no right or wrong way to enjoy this event,” said Troy Quinn, the Symphony’s music director. “You can stroll along the riverfront and enjoy any station for as long as you like.”
The evening will culminate in an encore performance by a Jazz Trio from 8-9 p.m. at Lure Seafood & Grille. Several food trucks will also be available throughout the event.
The Symphony Stroll started during the pandemic as a way to bring music to the community while maintaining social distancing. Now, it has become an annual tradition.
“This is part of our goal to bring music to the people,” Quinn said. “We love seeing everyone enjoy the up-close interaction with the musicians, and the weather has always been wonderful. It’s a great way to ease into our upcoming season.”
