Wendell Foster, a local non-profit organization supporting individuals with disabilities, will host its annual Special Needs Expo on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Owensboro Convention Center.
The event serves as a hub for families and caregivers seeking information about services and resources available to support people with disabilities. Representatives from non-profits, state agencies, and private businesses will be present, covering areas such as adult day training, assistive technology, autism services, education, health and rehab, and more.
“Supporting a loved one with a disability requires a knowledge of community resources,” said Cindy Huston, Wendell Foster’s Director of the Assistive Technology and Resource Center. “The Special Needs Expo is a great networking opportunity for parents and guardians to connect with professionals on those resources and support one another.”
This year’s Expo will feature a “Fun Zone,” offering activities including basketball, arts and crafts, balloon animals, and mini golf. Owensboro-based Holes to Go will provide the mini golf course, while volunteers from Hockey Heroes will teach attendees how to play hockey. Huston emphasized that the Fun Zone is designed for individuals of all abilities to enjoy.
“It’s the perfect way to take a break from exploring all the valuable resources at the Expo,” Huston said.
Admission to the Expo is free, and no registration is required. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the day.
