Encore Musicals of Owensboro is eager to present their latest musical, “Big Fish,” this weekend. Based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and the film by Tim Burton, “Big Fish” follows Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman known for his larger-than-life tales.

As his son Will prepares to welcome a child of his own, Edward grows determined to uncover the truth behind his father’s legendary stories. Crew members said the production combines humor, heart, and fantastical storytelling, offering an experience “bigger than life itself.”

“Big Fish is one of the most beautiful and whimsical stories ever told,” Turner Vaughn, who plays Edward Bloom, said in a Q&A posted on the Encore Facebook page. “You will leave with a newfound love for life, the people around you, and the stories we all have.”

The cast includes David Rodgers as Will Bloom and David Leishman as young Will. Rodgers previously appeared in “Godspell” and “The Sound of Music” and shared that “Big Fish” is a story about “a larger-than-life father whose imaginative tales remind us that we are all storytellers, inspiring those who come behind us.” In his Q&A with Encore, Leishman said the production is “a really fun show, with huge tales.”

The ensemble includes several other local performers who are ready to bring to life the various characters that populate Edward Bloom’s extraordinary stories.

Encore will present”Big Fish” at 7 p.m. on November 1 and 2 and 2 p.m. on November 3 in the Jack T. Wells Activity Center at Kentucky Wesleyan College, 3300 Frederica Street. Tickets are available online at Encore Musicals Tickets.

Encore Musicals was founded in 2017 by a group of former Back Alley Musicals performers who wanted to continue bringing high-quality theater to Owensboro after Back Alley’s closure. Since its inception, Encore Musicals has presented 14 productions, drawing an audience of more than 10,000 and becoming a staple in Owensboro’s arts community.
