OCHS seniors exceeds state, national averages for composite ACT scores

The Owensboro Catholic High School Class of 2024 outperformed both state and national averages with a composite ACT score of 22.8. The national average composite score was a 19.4, while the state composite was an 18.6.

“We are very proud of what our students and staff have accomplished, and this just reaffirms all the great work that goes on here each day,” said OCHS Principal George Powell. “As a school system, we make a concerted effort to focus our curriculum on those standards that align with the ACT. Our goal is to continue to improve and build on this accomplishment.”

Powell continued by said while test scores are not the main focus at OCHS, ACT scores are one of the best predictors for success in college. 

“With over 90% of our students going to college, it is obvious that the hard work put forth by our students and staff is helping to prepare them for future success,” he said.

Tracy Conkright, OCS Chief Education Officer, said she appreciates the parents who entrust their children’s education to the Owensboro Catholic School system. 

“The dedication of our administrators and teachers continues to influence student performance,” she said. “The caring, loving, faith-filled environment provided by OCS truly makes a difference in the success of our students.”
