The Owensboro Symphony Youth and String Orchestras will perform their annual fall concert on Monday at First Christian Church.
The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the church (700 JR Miller Boulevard). Doors will open to patrons 30 minutes prior to the performance. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased in advance at OwensboroSymphony.org.
The Youth Orchestra is under the direction of Mark Hatlestad, who is Principal Viola in the Owensboro Symphony and Evansville Philharmonic, Artist-in-Residence at the University of Evansville’s Eykamp String Quartet, and has a private studio for motivated young violists. The String Orchestra is led by Adrienne Vallandingham. She has a studio of violin students at the Owensboro Symphony Academy and serves as Education Coordinator/Librarian for the Owensboro Symphony.
“I’m excited to have our first Youth Orchestra concert of the year,” he said. “The students have put in a lot of hard work the past 2 months to prepare a challenging program featuring the music of Dvorak, Brahms, Bach and Gliere.”
The Owensboro Symphony, through its sponsorship of the Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra program, provides specialized training to more than 100 young musicians each year. The Youth Orchestra program dedicates itself to building on the success of school programs by offering students music that continues to challenge them in their growth.
Many students exiting the Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra have been offered college music scholarships and continue performing beyond high school graduation.
The program consists of two performing ensembles: the Youth Orchestra, which is a full orchestra experience, and the String Orchestra. Participants represent every local and many regional high school and middle school bands and orchestras. The Youth Orchestra welcomes college students who wish to continue their careers as instrumentalists at a high level.
