Owensboro native Emmy Woosley will read her children’s book Of Life: The Rollercoaster during the King Center’s Students with King’s Reading Corner on Tuesday. Woosley co-authored the book with fellow Owensboro native Jody Hulsey and will read it live on YouTube as part of the center’s monthly virtual program for classrooms and young readers.
“It’s such an honor to be included in this program and have the chance to share Evelli’s story with many more children,” Woosley said.
The event includes an interactive Q&A session with Woosley, moderated by local broadcaster, teen author, and TV show host Tyrik Wynn.
The King Center’s Reading Corner program was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic to connect classrooms with children’s authors, promoting conversation and learning. The program is part of the King Center’s BE LOVE movement, which aims to “foster love, understanding, and community.”
Woosley said she hopes the book’s message of resilience and optimism will resonate with children. The story follows Evelli, a character inspired by a young girl Woosley and Hulsey met at Girls Inc., who navigates life’s ups and downs with courage.
“We all need reminders to embrace the highs and lows,” Woosley said. “I’m most looking forward to sharing Evelli’s story with more children in hopes that it will encourage them to be optimistic, even in the face of adversity.”
Woosley also hopes local classrooms will tune in for this free event, which will air at 9 a.m. CST on Tuesday. Registration is available on the King Center’s website.
