The Daviess County Public Library will host its annual Proactive Aging Series this November, offering a variety of free educational sessions aimed at promoting health and well-being among older adults and their caregivers.

Presented in partnership with Timesavers Caregiving & Concierge, the fall lineup features four sessions led by local experts and a special guest from Nashville. Topics range from brain health to grief management and dementia care.

Tina Wright, Client Care Coordinator for Timesavers, highlighted the longstanding collaboration with the library.

“This is our third year partnering to provide the Proactive Aging Series each spring and fall,” Wright said. “Topics include legal and financial planning, fall prevention, nutrition, senior living options, dementia care, safety in the home, etc. We are always open to suggested topics and new ways to support our community in this season of life.”

The current series kicks off on November 11 at 2 p.m. with “Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body,” led by Cindy Sherriff, a volunteer educator with the Alzheimer’s Association. Sherriff will share science-backed strategies for reducing the risk of cognitive decline.

On November 12 at 4 p.m., Mary Anne Oglesby-Sutherly, founder of Veranda Ministries in Nashville and a certified Positive Approach to Care (PAC) consultant, will present “Root Causes in Dementia Care.” With a career devoted to improving dementia care, Oglesby-Sutherly brings expertise as a dementia coach, trainer, author, and podcast host.

The series continues on November 13 at 2 p.m. with “The Nature of Grief,” featuring Betty Medley Wallace, Coordinator of Grief Support at Glenn Family Services. Wallace will explore the emotional complexities of grief, which often extend beyond sadness.

The final session, “Am I on Too Many Medications?” will be held on November 15 at 2 p.m., with Dr. Andrew Collins, a geriatric physician from Owensboro Health Family Medicine, addressing the risks of multiple medications for older adults.

All sessions will be held on the second floor of the library at 2020 Frederica Street. For more information, contact Timesavers at 270-702-7887 or email [email protected].
