St. Benedict’s Homeless Shelter has launched its annual bed sponsorship campaign. The money goes directly toward programming and helping serve the 450+ men the shelter cares for each year.
“St. Benedict’s is committed to serving all individuals, regardless of background or beliefs,” said executive director Harry Pedigo. “As we welcome a new year filled with hope, St. Benedict’s Shelter extends heartfelt gratitude for the community’s ongoing support. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we are dedicated to empowering individuals and families in need.”
Pedigo said the shelter relies on community partnerships, with 90% of its $750,000 annual budget coming from generous contributions and less than 5% from religious organizations.
Bed sponsorships cost $500 each, and contributions directly fund the shelter’s programs and promote self-sufficiency for residents, Pedigo said.
Pedigo said the $500 covers one person’s needs to have access to a warm bed, warm meals, showers, case management, life skills, transitional housing, and many other resources.
“This $500 was factored after taking our year expenses and dividing it with our annual people served,” he said. “We have stayed with $500 to make it affordable for many budgets. This campaign is our largest fundraiser and people can pay it one time, monthly, or weekly whatever best fits their budget.”
Donors’ names name will be displayed as sponsors on a plaque in the facility. To sponsor a bed, visit stbenedictsowensboro.org or mail a check to the shelter at 1001 West 7th Street. You can also visit in person for a tour.
“Our community is imperative and our greatest asset, making our success and mission first class. We could not make the impact that we do without each donor, volunteer, and partner agency,” Pedigo said. “Thank you for considering this opportunity to partner with us. Together, we can make 2025 — our 20th anniversary — a year full of hope, healing, and transformation for our community.”
Pedigo said anyone interested in learning more can visit the shelter’s Facebook page, or you can speak to Pedigo about visiting your organization.
“We are grateful for our community and for the bed sponsorship campaign as it allows us to offer so many different things but most importantly keep our doors open,” he said.
