Daviess County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Matt Selby on Wednesday received the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety Award for his work in keeping impaired drivers off of the roads.
According to Sheriff Brady Youngman, DCSO deputies have prevented 189 impaired drivers from traveling the roads so far this year, with Selby having 66 arrests.
“I am very proud of the work that Deputy Selby does to protect our citizens and keep Daviess County roads safe from impaired drivers,” Youngman said. “He is good at what he does and has certainly prevented many deaths and tragedy with his dedication to arresting drunk driving.”
Youngman said DCSO made 137 impaired driving arrests in 2023 and 97 in 2022. Selby said while he received the award a an individual, it represents the importance of proactive law enforcement in maintaining public safety.
“Each traffic stop where an impaired driver is removed from the road is a stop that could prevent a tragic accident not just for the driver, but for everyone else their actions place in danger,” he said. “For the last year, I and the other deputies of the Daviess County Sheriff’s office have all worked diligently to keep our roads safe.”
Selby was humble but thankful for the honor.
“While I am deeply honored by this recognition, the real reward is knowing that our combined efforts have made a meaningful difference to the community we serve,” he said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to be a member of the Sheriff’s Office and help contribute to a safer Daviess County.”
