Daviess County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Matt Selby has received the Governor’s Award for 2025 Impaired Driving Enforcement for his work in keeping impaired drivers off the roads.
Selby said while he received the award a an individual, it represents the importance of proactive law enforcement in maintaining public safety.
“I am deeply honored to receive this award,” he said. “I and the other deputies of the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office often see firsthand the dangers impaired drivers risk to not only themselves, but the other citizens of Daviess County with whom they share the road. I am very proud to be a member of a proactive department that remains committed to highway safety, and I am thankful for the opportunity to serve our community.”
According to Sheriff Brad Youngman, DCSO deputies have prevented 190 impaired drivers from traveling the roads so far this year, with Selby having 46 arrests. Prior reporting shows DCSO made 189 impaired driving arrests in 2024, 137 in 2023, and 97 in 2022.
“Every day, I am more and more proud of the deputies who serve this community,” Youngman said. “They go above and beyond to protect our community, and Deputy Selby is a perfect example of the level of commitment and compassion for others exhibited by these deputies every day.”
Capt. Duane Harper, Patrol Division Commander, added: “Deputy Selby is the type of deputy that dedicates himself in a manner where he puts public safety first. I think of him as a deputy who wants to and does make a huge impact in our community by preventing collisions, injuries, and deaths. Drunk driving is a ‘100% preventable crime,’ and Deputy Selby displays this through enforcement.”
