Downtown Owensboro is set to transform into a holiday hub of activity today for the 17th annual Holiday Stroll. From scavenger hunts and kids’ activities to caroling and a vintage-themed pub crawl, organizers said the event promises something for everyone.

Organized by Downtown Owensboro, a recently formed nonprofit focused on improving the area for local businesses, the Holiday Stroll showcases several vendors and events.

Full-day festivities planned
The Holiday Stroll kicks off early and keeps going into the night. Highlights include:

  • All Day: Gnome Scavenger Hunt
  • 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Coffee & Hot Chocolate Crawl (select locations)
  • 8:30 a.m.: CareNet Reindeer Run 5K at Smothers Park
  • 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.: Caroling Around Downtown (select locations)
  • 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.: Kid’s Activities & Vendor Market at Simply Chic
  • 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.: Christkindlmarket at Brew Bridge
  • 5 p.m. – 2 a.m.: A “Vintage” Christmas Pub Crawl (select locations)
  • 7 p.m.: Owensboro Dance Theatre’s The Nutcracker at RiverPark Center

Participants can also enjoy the new mobile pass system, which allows attendees to check in at locations via GPS for rewards such as a Downtown Owensboro e-gift card.

This year, the Holiday Stroll is introducing the Christkindlmarket, inspired by European outdoor markets. Featuring high-quality gifts, food, and festive charm, organizers said the Christkindlmarket will take place on the patio of Brew Bridge and is “one of the first of its kind in this area.”

The Kid’s Activity Zone, located at Simply Chic and Brew Bridge, offers interactive stations, including crafts, Hot Wheels racing, and “Letters to Santa.” Children who participate will receive small gifts from Santa’s bag, such as Hot Wheels cars or craft kits.

The Holiday Stroll is part of Downtown Owensboro’s broader mission to unite local businesses and elevate the downtown experience. The organization, which officially launched in August 2024, coordinates events and fosters partnerships to benefit the area’s small businesses.

“Our goal is to plan and support activities that create a balance between food, beverage, retail, and other industries,” said Drew Mitchell with Downtown Owensboro. “Holiday Stroll is just one way we’re bringing people together to celebrate what makes our downtown special.”

Printed guides and flyers with event details will be available throughout downtown. A digital version with QR codes linking to schedules and mobile passes is also accessible here. For more information about the Holiday Stroll or Downtown Owensboro, visit downtownowensboro.com.
