Owensboro Community and Technical College has received a significant boost to its Radiography Technology program through a new $150,000 funding initiative. The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education has awarded OCTC a $75,000 grant, which will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Owensboro Health, to provide comprehensive scholarships for radiography students.
The grant, funded through the Kentucky General Assembly’s Healthcare Workforce Investment Fund, aims to strengthen Kentucky’s healthcare workforce by supporting students pursuing careers in radiography.
“This partnership between OCTC, Owensboro Health, and the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education, demonstrates our shared commitment to developing skilled healthcare professionals. We are grateful to Owensboro Health for their generous support of this grant initiative,” said Dr. Scott Williams, OCTC President. “By removing financial barriers, we’re creating more opportunities for our students while addressing critical workforce needs in our region.”
Owensboro Health COO Beth Steele said, “Owensboro Health continues to partner with our educational affiliates in new and innovative ways, which ensures we are giving individuals who want to pursue roles in healthcare, every chance to be successful. This opportunity showcases our shared dedication to growing local healthcare talent for the future.”
Eligible candidates must be Kentucky residents entering their second year of the radiography program. The scholarships will cover various educational expenses, including tuition, books, fees, and other attendance-related costs. Recipients will begin receiving support in the fall 2025 semester. As part of their commitment, scholarship recipients will be required to work in their field for a designated period after graduation.
“This funding represents a crucial investment in our future healthcare professionals,” said Michelle Tudor, OCTC Radiography Program coordinator. “These scholarships will help remove financial barriers for students committed to serving our community’s healthcare needs.”
Interested students can apply through OCTC’s regular scholarship process. The application deadline is April 1, 2025.
