Have you ever wanted to help spot and report weather phenomena? Now’s your chance, with a Skywarn Spotter course being offered in Owensboro this February.
The session, which begins at 6 p.m. on February 18 at Owensboro Christian Church, will be hosted by the National Weather Service instructor Allan Diegan. The course is open to all individuals, regardless of their level of meteorological knowledge.
The course will teach participants how to identify and report severe weather phenomena, including thunderstorms, tornadoes, funnel clouds, wall clouds, hail, lightning, downbursts, and flash flooding. The training lasts two and a half hours, and all course materials are provided free of charge.
Certified Skywarn spotters play a crucial role in supporting the NWS by providing on-the-ground reports of severe weather events, complementing radar data, and other forecasting tools. The information is helpful in the issuance of warnings for tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, and flash floods.
Registration is required to attend the seminar. Interested individuals can visit weather.gov/pah/spottertraining to sign up.
