For Mary Katherine Wathen, the journey to writing her first book, “Made for More,” was not one she anticipated would be easy. But after years of reflection and personal guidance, she found herself compelled to share her story and experiences with the world.

Wathen, a busy mother of seven children, faced what many would call an overwhelming schedule. Between raising a large family and managing daily responsibilities, finding quiet time to write seemed nearly impossible. But as life continued, so did the growing realization that she had a message to share.

“I’ve been told by many over the years that I should write a book,” Wathen said. “But it was never the right time. I had children to care for, and then another baby came along. Finding time for myself was a challenge, but when I asked for guidance, God answered with an overwhelming series of signs.”

In her search for quiet, Wathen traveled to Florida, where for four days, she dedicated herself to the book, writing from morning until late at night. Upon returning home, she completed 90% of the work and finished the book shortly after.

Wathen’s faith and prayer were the driving forces behind her book.

“It’s a gift to be able to live according to His will, and that’s how I wanted to write this book,” she said. “Every word felt guided.”

Wathen said “Made for More” tackles the overwhelming cycle many face in their daily lives. Wathen discusses how modern life often leaves people feeling stuck in a hamster wheel of stress and negativity. Her book offers a different path — a way to step out of this cycle by choosing to live with intention and purpose, reflecting a faith-driven lifestyle.

“My goal with this book is not only to be faithful and pleasing to God but also to show others that they, too, can live a beautiful life if they shift their perspective and align their actions with His plan,” Wathen said. “We are all responsible for our own happiness, and it’s in our hands to make our lives wonderful, despite the challenges.”

The book is already gaining attention, with Wathen receiving support from friends who are hosting launch events, including one in her hometown of Owensboro. While this is Wathen’s first book, she hints that it may not be her last.

When asked what advice she would give aspiring authors or anyone pursuing big dreams, Wathen said, “Don’t let your dreams die. Roadblocks may happen, but delays are not denials. Keep going, shift as needed, and enjoy the journey. We are meant for progress, not perfection.”

Wathen hopes that readers will not only gain insights from her story but will also find inspiration to break free from their own cycles of overwhelm and begin living with purpose.

The official Owensboro launch event for “Made for More” will be held soon. Details will be shared on Wathen’s social media pages and website.
