Audubon Area Community Services (AACS) is celebrating 50 years of service with a community event on May 17, inviting local families to enjoy food, fun, and a firsthand look at the organization’s impact across the region.
The celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the lawn next to AACS’s administrative offices at 1700 West 5th Street in Owensboro. The event is free and open to the public.
Attendees can enjoy free shaved ice from Kona Ice, a light lunch from Ole South Bar-B-Que (while supplies last), inflatable activities for children, and live music. A “passport game” will give guests the chance to learn about AACS programs and enter to win a grand prize: a Holiday World family fun package including four any-day tickets, $150 in HoliCash, and a $50 Visa gift card.
Founded in 1974, AACS offers a wide range of services for individuals and families, including early childhood education through Head Start, safe and affordable housing, utility bill assistance, recovery and healthcare services, career readiness training, senior support programs, and transportation.
“We are incredibly proud to celebrate 50 years of service to our community,” said Brandon W. Harley, CEO of AACS. “This event is a wonderful opportunity to bring together families, friends, and neighbors to enjoy a day of fun and to learn more about the vital programs and services we offer.”
Harley previously said the organization has adapted over the years to address the complex and evolving issues of poverty. Over the decades, the nonprofit has grown into one of the largest community action agencies in Kentucky.
“We are a community action agency, one of 23 in Kentucky and part of a nationwide network of about 1,000 agencies,” Harley said previously. “Our mission has always been to alleviate barriers that keep people in poverty. It’s a tough battle because poverty has long roots and requires comprehensive, long-term solutions.”
The 50th anniversary event is presented by Atmos Energy, with additional support from Lakeshore Learning and PNC Bank.
