A free “Brown Bag Lunch Concert” returns Tuesday, offering a midday dose of classical music for those looking to enjoy a quick cultural escape. This installment of the ongoing series will feature the works of Dmitri Shostakovich and Florent Schmitt.
The concert runs from 12:15 to 1 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church (720 Ford Avenue), where guests are invited to bring their lunch and enjoy the program in a relaxed, intimate setting.
Performers for this concert include Kathy Karr (flute), Kirsten Ahnell (clarinet), and Sharon Hudson (piano).
Karr is the Principal Flute of the Grammy Award-winning Louisville Orchestra and a longtime music educator. Ahnell, the founder of the Brown Bag series, is a Kentucky Wesleyan College professor and former principal clarinetist with the Owensboro Symphony. Hudson, a speech therapist by trade, continues to collaborate with several area music organizations while working locally at Wendell Foster. Full bios can be found below.
The Brown Bag concert series was launched in 2018 by Ahnell to make classical music more accessible to the public. Each program highlights small ensemble works and includes time for musicians to speak about the pieces and composers.
Audience members are also invited to ask questions following the performance.
This week’s concert is sponsored by Paula Dehn and Kathe Cooke.
