After just a few weeks in business, Golf Emporium is already exceeding expectations as a premier destination for golfers in western Kentucky. Owner Jason Cox said community support has been overwhelming, with customers embracing the shop’s high-end services and state-of-the-art technology.
“Business has been absolutely fantastic,” Cox said. “The support has been way greater than I ever anticipated. It just goes to show there was a real need here.”
Located at 325 Park Plaza Drive, Golf Emporium combines a full retail pro shop with advanced fitting technology, including two Foresight Sports hitting bays and a high-tech putting lab. The facility caters to golfers of all experience levels, from beginners to seasoned players.
“Our goal has always been simple: golf made better,” Cox said. “We’re here to understand where you’re at as a player and where you want to be, then create the best opportunity to help you get there.”
A former golf professional at The Pearl Club and head coach at Brescia University, Cox brings more than 20 years of experience to the business. His new venture emphasizes custom club and putter fittings using professional-grade technology previously only found in large markets.
Another key feature that sets Golf Emporium apart is the SAM PuttLab system, used by major golf manufacturers in their R&D departments. Paired with an adjustable putting platform, the system allows golfers to simulate left-to-right, uphill, and downhill putts — and receive data-backed insights into their stroke.
“Most golfers walk into a pro shop, pick up a putter that feels right in the moment, and end up putting worse,” Cox said. “We find out what your putting stroke actually does, then fit you with the equipment that helps you make more putts.”
In addition to club fittings and lessons, the Emporium also offers:
- Full-service club repair, including loft/lie adjustments and regripping
- Retail offerings from “premium apparel brands not typically seen in local shops”
- Golf simulator rentals for practice or virtual rounds
- Shoes, accessories, and other gear
Cox said many new golfers are discovering the sport, a trend that began during the COVID-19 pandemic and has only continued to grow.
“More people are playing now than even during the Tiger boom in the early 2000s,” he said. “In just our first seven weeks, I’ve seen so many new golfers — people who’ve only been playing a year or less — who are really excited to improve their game.”
And they no longer have to drive to Evansville, Nashville, or Louisville for elite-level services.
“We’ve brought something to Owensboro that just didn’t exist before,” Cox said.
