Beginning June 3, the Owensboro Museum of Science and History will open its doors on Tuesdays. Museum officials said the expanded weekly schedule will give families more opportunities to “beat the heat and explore the museum this summer.”

Located at 122 East 2nd Street, the museum will now be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1-5 p.m. Admission is $5, while children ages 2 and under get in free.

Executive Director Isaac Settle said the decision to add Tuesday hours is something he’s wanted to do since stepping into the role in March.

“For one, it’s more bang for your buck for our members — it adds an additional day,” Settle said. “We’re back to pretty much a full staff, and we have the ability to do it. Any more time people can have to come in here, have some fun, and learn something is a win.”

Settle noted that while past Tuesday closures helped accommodate construction and infrastructure projects, many of those improvements — such as elevator upgrades and behind-the-scenes maintenance — are now complete or ongoing without disrupting day-to-day operations.

“Some of the stuff we’ve been working on isn’t something the public necessarily sees, but it’s still important,” Settle said. “Opening on Tuesdays just made sense.”

The museum recently added a new toddler play area and an interactive boat exhibit, which have already proven popular among younger guests.

Settle encouraged families looking for summer activities to take advantage of the additional day.

“We’re open — come see us,” he said.
