A new exhibit at the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art aims to offer a window into the people, places, and everyday moments that define the American Midwest. Through paintings, sculpture, and ceramics, “Regionalism: Images of the Midwest” highlights the work of artists who draw inspiration from the landscapes and communities of their home states.

The exhibition opens Saturday with a public preview reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m., sponsored by Owensboro Health. Admission is free, and the exhibit will remain on display through October 19.

According to the release, the exhibit explores the regionalism movement in contemporary visual arts — a style grounded in representing the identity, heritage, and lived experiences of specific areas.

Among the artists featured are Kentucky artists Ellen Glasgow (Frankfort), Lynn Dunbar (Louisville), Jim Cantrell (Bardstown), Joe Overby (Owensboro), and Iris Gentry (Henderson). Regional artists include Wyatt LeGrand (Bloomfield, Indiana); Pamela Folsom and Chuck Marshall (Cincinnati, Ohio); Todd Derr (Cleveland, Tennessee); and the late Lawrence Rudolech (Hanover, Indiana).

Three-dimensional works are also part of the exhibition, with contributions from ceramicist Matthew Gaddie (Hanover, Indiana) and sculptor Bill Kolok (Owensboro).

OMFA said select works were lent by Wheelhouse Art Gallery of Louisville and Art Enclave of Mason, Ohio.

“Regionalism: Images of the Midwest” runs through October 19. Admission is free.

Museum hours are 12-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Guided tours are available by contacting Director of Education Rebecca Stoen at [email protected] or calling 270-685-3181. Tours cost a minimum of $50 for up to 25 participants, with $2 per additional person.
