Families are invited to Kendall-Perkins Park tonight for Beverly’s Hearty Slice Halloween Spooktacular. Organizer Travis Owsley said it’s an evening designed to bring fun, food, and hope to the community.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. at the park (1201 West 5th Street) and will feature free candy, costumes, face painting, princesses, hot chocolate, pizza, and more.
The annual celebration, sponsored by Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline, Halloween Havoc, Pepsi, and other partners, aims to give children a memorable Halloween while helping families who may be struggling.
Owsley said the event reflects the organization’s mission to serve families in need and honor his late mother’s legacy.
“In the communities we serve, some families are struggling to make ends meet — providing food, affording a place to stay, or paying their bills,” Owsley said. “To have the support to provide bi-weekly meals and help these families during the holidays so their kids don’t have to go without is why we exist.”
Owsley said this year’s event will include over 400 free costumes, inflatables, a balloon artist, and warm meals for attendees.
“I remember what it was like as a kid standing in similar lines with my mom trying to get resources, food, and help with bills,” he said. “To see it come full circle — and now to be able to help families going through the same situation in my mother’s memory — is truly a blessing.”
The event is free and open to the public. Decorations and costumes are provided by Halloween Havoc.
