Owensboro-born author and psychologist Dr. Keith Payne will return home Oct. 2 to discuss his latest book, “Good Reasonable People: The Psychology Behind America’s Dangerous Divide,” during a free lecture and Q&A at Brescia University.
The event begins at 6 p.m. in Duffy Auditorium, located in the C.E. Field Center for Professional Studies.
Payne, now a professor of psychology and neuroscience at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earned his bachelor’s degree from Western Kentucky University and a doctorate from Washington University in St. Louis. His research focuses on how inequality influences human thought and behavior, and how psychological patterns contribute to racial and economic disparities.
He is the author of “The Broken Ladder: How Inequality Affects the Way We Think, Live, and Die” as well as his newest release, “Good Reasonable People.”
Leading up to his visit, several community groups have taken part in a month-long reading of “Good Reasonable People.” During his time in Owensboro, Payne will also meet with members of the Chamber Young Professionals and speak with Brescia students enrolled in a political psychology course.
A reception will follow the lecture, giving attendees an opportunity to meet Payne and continue the conversation in an informal setting.
