Kentucky Wesleyan College will expand its academic offerings next semester with two new courses focused on film and media production. One class is centered on hands-on filmmaking and the other on exploring emerging AI tools.

“Fundamentals in Film Production” will partner directly with Kentucky Sound Stage to give students real-world experience across multiple aspects of filmmaking. Students will take projects from early concepts through finished productions.

“This is a great opportunity to get students involved with all aspects of media production and for students to explore careers in film with industry professionals,” said Dr. Andrew Bolin, Communication Arts program director.

The second course, “AI Film-Making,” will introduce students to generative AI tools used in visual storytelling. The class will blend traditional techniques, including screenwriting, storyboarding, concept design, and cinematography, with new technologies capable of producing high-quality imagery and video. Students will work with state-of-the-art tools that are increasingly shaping modern production workflows.

“The course is a forward-looking course into a new approach to filming with modern tools,” said Assistant Professor of Art and Design Shea Stanley.

Both courses are open to all KWC students. They will be listed as CART 410: Special Topics – Fundamentals in Film Production and ART 485: Special Topics – AI Film-Making.

“We are looking forward to growing our course offerings in the area of film and media production and creating more collaborative opportunities for our students with local professionals,” Bolin said.
