A growing waitlist and rising community demand are prompting organizers of Owensboro’s Night to Shine to prepare for an expanded celebration in 2026, as they work to secure additional volunteers and sponsors for the annual prom-style event for individuals with special needs.

Life Community Church will host the celebration on February 13 at the Owensboro Convention Center. This marks the church’s ninth year organizing the event locally. About 200 guests have already secured a spot, but another 100 remain on the waiting list.

Organizers hope to expand capacity, noting the event’s continued growth mirrors what’s happening worldwide through the Tim Tebow Foundation, which sponsors Night to Shine.

“Night to Shine is my favorite night of the year,” foundation founder Tim Tebow said in a release. “It’s my favorite because we get to celebrate so many Kings and Queens and share how much they are loved by us and by the God of this universe. Our goal is to be able to get to every person with special needs around the world — until all are celebrated. No matter what city, no matter what country, no matter where you are, we want Night to Shine to be there.”

Night to Shine events take place in hundreds of cities across the globe on the Friday before Valentine’s Day. In Owensboro, guests are welcomed with a full prom-style experience, including a red carpet entrance with paparazzi, hair and makeup stations, limo rides, karaoke, dinner, dancing, a Sensory Room, a Respite Room for caregivers, and a crowning ceremony where every participant is named a King or Queen.

Life Community Church is one of many host congregations partnering with the Tim Tebow Foundation, which supports local organizers with volunteer guidance, financial grants, and resources through Shine On, its disability ministry initiative. Over the past 11 years, Night to Shine has created more than half a million guest experiences thanks to more than a million volunteers.
