The Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum has been named one of Smithsonian Magazine’s “250 Places to Celebrate America,” a national list highlighting destinations that capture the history, culture, and spirit of the United States as the country approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026.
Curated by the editors of Smithsonian Magazine, the list recognizes 250 sites across the country that represent America’s diverse heritage, from historic landmarks and cultural institutions to natural wonders and community gathering places. According to a release, the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum was selected for its role in preserving and celebrating the legacy of bluegrass music.
“Being recognized by Smithsonian Magazine is an incredible honor and a testament to the impact of bluegrass music and the artists, fans, and community that keep this tradition alive,” said Adam Engelhardt, executive director of the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum. “We’re proud to represent Kentucky and American roots music on this national stage, especially during this milestone moment for the country.”
Located in downtown Owensboro, the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum offers immersive exhibits, rare artifacts, live music experiences, and the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. The institution also hosts ROMP Festival, year-round concerts, educational programs, and community events, drawing visitors from around the world to explore the history and future of bluegrass music.
The Smithsonian Magazine list was developed through a nationwide editorial process that considered more than 500 potential sites and reflects a wide range of American stories and experiences.
