Friends of Sinners is one step closer to completing its new men’s residential recovery facility after receiving a $100,000 donation from the Michael E. Horn Family Foundation.
The gift will support ongoing renovations for the Christ-centered program, which provides long-term recovery services for individuals overcoming addiction.
“This gift is not just financial — it’s a statement of belief in what God is doing through this ministry,” said Jordan Wilson, executive director of Friends of Sinners. “The Michael E. Horn Family Foundation understands the importance of life transformation and is stepping in at a critical time.”
The project, which aims to expand the organization’s capacity, is approximately 75% complete. Wilson said Friends of Sinners has already invested about $2 million into the facility, with the total cost expected to reach roughly $2.5 million.
“This donation is such a blessing. It shows that our community believes in the work we do,” Wilson said. “These funds will go toward the renovation of our men’s facility. We have already invested $2M and are getting so close to the finish line.”
Construction is currently paused as the organization works to secure the remaining funding needed to finish the project. Once completed, the facility is expected to significantly increase the number of men served.
“Finishing our facility is our greatest project,” Wilson said. “When the doors open, we believe this year, we will be able to treat double the amount of men.”
Wilson said the expansion comes at a critical time, as the program currently has a waiting list.
“This is so important as we currently have a waiting list,” he said. “The need is there and we are so excited to finish this and move in.”
Friends of Sinners operates as a faith-based, long-term residential recovery program and does not rely on insurance funding, making donor partnerships essential to its mission.
The Michael E. Horn Family Foundation has supported the organization for several years and strengthened its involvement after a recent visit to the new facility.
“We’ve been supporting Friends of Sinners for several years through grants and sponsorships,” said Kayla Walker of the foundation. “However, recently, Jordan Wilson invited us for a site visit of the new men’s facility and informed us of the financial need they were facing.”
Walker said the foundation views Friends of Sinners as a key partner in improving the community.
“The Michael E. Horn Family Foundation desires that the Owensboro area overcome hardships and thrive for a better future,” she said. “We believe that FOS is an organization on the forefront of that mission.”
She added that the program’s impact is evident through the lives it has changed.
“The lives changed through their program are testaments to the fact that what Friends of Sinners is doing is working,” Walker said. “With Christ at its core, they are definitely making an eternal difference. I hope many more individuals and organizations will choose to support them.”
Wilson said continued community support will be critical to completing the facility and expanding access to recovery services.
“It is imperative that organizations like the Michael E. Horn Family Foundation partner with ministries like Friends of Sinners,” he said. “Without this kind of support, programs like ours simply cannot exist — and lives that could be changed may never get the opportunity.”
