King Drug and Home Care has opened a new location on Pleasant Valley Road, expanding its footprint in Owensboro and aiming to improve access to home medical equipment for patients on the city’s east side.
The new site operates under King Home Care, the company’s division focused on durable medical equipment (DME), and began serving customers after finalizing insurance approvals earlier this year. Company officials said the expansion was driven primarily by customer demand and the need to better serve a growing number of referrals in the region.
King Drug and Home Care has served Western Kentucky since 1969, offering pharmacy services and medical equipment across multiple communities. The company also currently operates locations on Carter Road in Owensboro, McCoy Avenue in Madisonville, G.L. Smith Street in Morgantown, and South Main Street in Hartford, along with King Home Care sites in Bowling Green.
According to company leadership, the Pleasant Valley Road location was selected in part to address a geographic gap in service coverage.
“Coverage of the eastern part of Owensboro was needed for convenience to our customers,” said Bob Tarrants, director of HR and marketing. “Proximity to Owensboro Regional Hospital allows for a much quicker response for those people needing oxygen or other medical equipment after leaving the hospital for home.”
Unlike some of the company’s other locations, the Pleasant Valley Road site will not include pharmacy services. Instead, it will focus exclusively on home medical equipment, including oxygen systems, CPAP and BiPAP machines, power mobility devices, and other equipment designed to help patients recover or manage conditions at home.
All King locations provide access to trained respiratory therapists or registered nurses who assist with equipment such as oxygen and sleep therapy devices. Tarrants said the new site extends those services to a part of Owensboro that previously required longer travel times for some patients.
The Pleasant Valley Road location is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and currently employs about five full-time staff members.
