Cravens Pool will not open as planned this weekend after city officials discovered a mechanical issue during preseason maintenance, though other Combest Pool and splash parks in Owensboro and Daviess County are opening for the summer.

In an update issued Friday, the City of Owensboro said the opening of Cravens Pool has been delayed indefinitely while repairs are assessed and completed. Officials said all programs and activities scheduled at the facility will also be postponed until the pool reopens.

Combest Pool is still scheduled to open May 23 for the Memorial Day weekend, along with the city’s spray parks at Smothers Park, Kendall-Perkins Park, and Legion Park. City spray parks will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and are free to use.

Before the delay announcement, Owensboro Parks & Recreation had planned to open both city pools for the season this weekend. Officials said Cravens Pool’s “Paddle & Play” program is expected to return once the facility reopens. The program is designed for children ages 0-6 and their parents and is typically held twice weekly during the summer.

Both Cravens and Combest pools can be rented out for parties and group gatherings when open. More information about programs and rentals can be found here.

Meanwhile, Daviess County Parks & Recreation opened its splash parks Friday at Horse Fork Creek Park, Yellow Creek Park, and Panther Creek Park.

County splash parks will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. throughout the summer season.
