Wendell Foster is seeking community donations ahead of its annual spring yard sale fundraiser later this week.
The biannual event, organized by the nonprofit’s Recreation Department, is scheduled for May 14 from 3-6 p.m. and May 15 from 7 a.m. to noon on the Wendell Foster campus at 815 Triplett Street. Proceeds from the sale help purchase Christmas and birthday gifts for Wendell Foster residents.
Jennifer Owsley-Midkiff, director of recreation at Wendell Foster, said the organization relies heavily on community support to make the fundraiser successful.
“This sale wouldn’t be possible without generous community members who donate their gently-used items,” Owsley-Midkiff said. “Our yard sale is known for having a wide variety of unique items, such as large furniture, decor, and appliances. We also welcome donations of durable medical equipment.”
The organization will accept donations of most items, excluding clothes and shoes. Donations can be dropped off at the Young Building on the Wendell Foster campus on May 12-13 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and May 14 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Owsley-Midkiff said the fundraiser has a direct impact on residents throughout the year.
“Each year, the community support of our yard sales allows us to make birthdays and the holiday season special for our residents,” she said. “We’re grateful for each person who comes out and shops to benefit Wendell Foster.”
Lunch will also be available for purchase during the May 15 sale. Meals will include either a cheeseburger or a hot dog, along with chips, a cookie, and bottled water for $7. Proceeds from food sales will also benefit the organization’s Christmas and birthday fund.
