A new comedy event is coming to the west side of Owensboro as 1885 Cocktail Bar prepares to host The Pop Up Comedy Club on July 11.

The late-night show will feature comedians Andy Imlay, Bob Digga, and Ryan Likens. Doors open at 8 p.m., with the show beginning at 9 p.m.

According to 1885 owner Daniel Keaveney, bringing unique entertainment options to the venue has been part of his vision since opening 1885.

“One of the goals I’ve always had for 1885 is to make it more than just a cocktail bar,” he said. “We obviously take a lot of pride in the drinks, but I also want it to be a place where people can gather for unique experiences that they can’t get every weekend in Owensboro.”

Keaveney said the opportunity arose when organizers with The Pop Up Comedy Club approached the business about hosting a show.

“Comedy and cocktails have gone hand in hand for a long time, and I thought it was a great opportunity to bring something different to town,” he said. “Owensboro has a strong community that supports local events, and I think people are always looking for new reasons to get together and have a good night out.”

Unlike larger comedy venues, the event is designed to create a close connection between performers and the audience.

“We’re only selling 70 tickets, so everyone is going to be close to the action,” Keaveney said. “It’s not a huge theater where you’re sitting hundreds of feet from the stage. It’s a smaller room, a great atmosphere, craft cocktails, and professional comedians who know how to work a crowd.”

The show is open to guests 21 and older, with tickets priced at $15.

Keaveney said he hopes the event is the first of many entertainment offerings at 1885.

“First and foremost, I want people to have a great time,” he said. “If guests leave talking about how much fun they had and asking when the next one is, that’s a success.”

He said a successful turnout could lead to additional comedy shows and specialty events in the future.

“My hope is that events like this help create a stronger nightlife scene and give both residents and visitors more things to do in Owensboro,” Keaveney said.

Tickets for the event are available online. Visit 1885’s website or social media pages for more info.
