Daviess County Public Schools has named Dan Dowell as its new District Special Services Coordinator.
In the role, Dowell will support the Director of Special Services in administering and implementing the district’s instructional programs for students who qualify for exceptional education services.
Dowell has served as an Exceptional Child Consultant for the district’s preschool program since 2023, overseeing special education standards, staff training, and enrollment. Before that, he spent eight years as an Exceptional Child Consultant, helping develop and implement special education policies and procedures while managing district programs and operations.
Dowell said he is grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the district in a new capacity.
“Having served our district for many years, I am grateful for the opportunity to continue supporting students, teachers, and families in this new role,” Dowell said. “I look forward to working with our dedicated educators to ensure every student receives the individualized support and opportunities they deserve.”
Prior to joining DCPS, Dowell worked in Henderson County Schools as a special education teacher at Spotsville Elementary for four years, where he developed lesson plans and provided instruction in co-teaching and resource settings. He also spent five years as a school psychologist, conducting assessments, consulting with teachers, and supporting positive behavior initiatives.
“Dan brings a unique depth of experience in special education, having served as a school psychologist, special education teacher, and Exceptional Child Consultant,” Director of Special Services Robin Bush said. “These past positions have given him a well-rounded understanding of special education from multiple perspectives. Dan displays a strong commitment to supporting students, families, and educators across our Daviess County Public Schools. We are excited to have him in this new role.”
