Local organizations working to address food insecurity in Daviess County can apply now for funding through the 21st annual Empty Bowls of Owensboro fundraiser.
Empty Bowls is accepting applications from July 1-31 from nonprofit organizations seeking to become the beneficiary of this year’s fundraising dinner and silent auction. Empty Bowls leaders said the selected organization should demonstrate a commitment to addressing the root causes of hunger, providing sustainable solutions, and promoting long-term food security in Daviess County.
The nonprofit said it is especially interested in initiatives focused on community engagement, education, and innovative approaches to combating food insecurity.
Last year’s recipient, St. Benedict’s Homeless Shelter, received $17,000 through the annual fundraiser.
Applications are available on the Empty Bowls website.
Presented by Brescia University, this year’s Empty Bowls event is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 1 in the lobby of the RiverPark Center. Bell Bank is serving as the venue sponsor.
About 210 tickets will go on sale Sept. 1 for $20 each. Attendees will receive a handcrafted ceramic bowl created by local artisans, community members, Owensboro Health employees, and students from Apollo High School and Brescia University before enjoying a simple meal of soup prepared by local restaurants, chefs, and churches.
The event will also feature a silent auction. Individuals and organizations interested in donating auction items or gift baskets can contact the Empty Bowls committee by email. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, donations to Empty Bowls are tax-deductible.
Additional information about applications, sponsorship opportunities, tickets, and the event is available at the Empty Bowls website.
