Farmers’ Market to offer evening hours after 20 percent increase in attendance last season

The Owensboro Regional Farmers’ Market is set to open April 20. This will be the first full season at the new pavilion located at 1205 Triplett St.

Market President Jim Gilles said the new pavilion has garnered a 20 percent increase in customer attendance for the market with over 31,000 visits from May to October last year.

“This year we have 34 vendors signed up so far with several new vendors to add to our mix for the 2019 season,” Gilles said. “The market is always looking for volunteers to help with market planning and activities along with joining our developing Friends of the Market Program.

New to the lineup this year will be an evening market one day per month.

“A lot of people can’t make morning markets, so we think an evening market has good potential,” Gilles said. “They are a growing trend in larger cities and we think it will touch a different group of people.”

While the evening market will only be available one day each month, Gilles said the market could potentially add more dates. It is the hope of organizers that this new addition will bring in a younger crowd, which they hope to bolster with themed events to encourage attendance.

The following is a full schedule of dates for the Owensboro Regional Farmers’ Market:

1205 Triplett St. Pavilion:
Saturdays from April 20 – Nov. 2 from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 2 – Oct. 31 from 6:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Thursday Evening Market on June 13, July 11, Aug. 8 from 4 – 7 p.m.

Satellite market at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital:
Wednesdays from May 15- August 28 from 1:30 – 5 p.m.
