You might still be wearing your flip-flops with fervor, but fall is in full swing — at least when you step inside Excursions, where creating extraordinary style is all in a day’s work for the elite retailer.

The exposed clothing closets on each side of the airy entry are filled with autumnal apparel in rich shades of tan, cream, gold and gray, dotted with bursts of jewel-toned garments. Some of the principal labels shoppers will see in the front sportswear and dress section are Tribal, Nic + Zoe, Joseph Ribkoff, Trina Turk, Nicole Miller, and Nanette Lapore.

Excursions customers know that the shopping experience is not just about the quality clothing; it’s really about relationships and the highest level of customer service.

“The girls are great about calling or texting me when they get something I like; or if I see something cute on Instagram, I’ll just text them—it’s a great service!” customer Hadley Wilson said.

In the afternoons, you may find customers and sales associates gathered in the back of the store — where the clothing is more casual, with denim, sweatshirts, and tees — chatting about what to wear and when to wear it. Brands like Sundays, Three Dot and Michael Stars are Excursions’ staples.

According to buyer Jaye Moseley Evans, 29-year owner of the iconic Owensboro store, some of the fall trends Excursions will focus on are interesting sleeve details — bell and lace, flared bottoms, cropped knits, high-rise skinny jeans and fabrics such as velvet.

“We are seeing lots of plaid this fall,” said Evans. “We look at the runway and we look at fashion influencers — all the same things our customers are watching,” she says, “and we strive to bring those looks to our town in a comfortable and friendly atmosphere.  We love getting to know our clients on a personal level — to really know what they like and want.”

Excursions is the only Brighton jewelry retailer in the area.

“We have a great Brighton customer base; we do a lot of special orders for items we might not have in stock,” said sales associate Karen Clark.

Annie McCrady, owner of neighboring Pure Barre and busy mom, says she can just pop in and pick up a cute BCBG or Michael Stars top for the weekend.

“Those are two of my favorite brands. Going in Excursions is like going to a good friend’s house!” McCrady said.

Whether it’s swapping out your worn denim for a crisp new pair of Joe’s jeans or treating yourself to a new Hammitt purse or a Minnie Rose sweater. As the fall season rapidly approaches, the Excursions crew suggests you get shopping now while the “getting is good.”

“I know the girls are going to steer me in the right direction when I can’t make up my mind,”  Wilson said.

“First and foremost, we want our customers to feel happy and look good in their Excursions clothes; that’s our main goal — happy customers,” Clark added.
