The Veranda, a luxury gift and apparel store located in the new Avenue 54 development, has been open since Aug. 3, but celebrated their store with a ribbon cutting with the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce Friday afternoon.

Jacqueline Graves Cecil, Membership Development and Marketing Manager, spoke at the event, recognizing owner Kelly Campbell.

“It is easy to see how excited she is and excited to interact with Owensboro in a different way,” Cecil said.

Cecil said she is often asked how Owensboro can support so many boutiques. Her answer to is the successful ones find their niche.

Campbell says the niche that The Veranda has found is for the professional woman age 20 to 60.

“The store is full of classy, beautiful things,” Campbell said.

Campbell was a nurse for more than 20 years, but always dreamed of opening her own business. When her husband recently retired, she decided it was time to take a leap. She floated many ideas — a bakery, a garden nursery — but ultimately decided on a boutique.

“This is what I love,” Campbell said. “I love clothes.”
