UPDATE:

A Facebook post stated Monday morning that Bubba Gandy Seafood in Owensboro would be closing its doors. When Owensboro Times reached out to owner Carene Sater for comment, she could not be reached.

Bubba Gandy Seafood owner, Chuck Gandy, took to Facebook to clarify the statement Monday evening.

“Dear Owensboro Residents: I am Chuck Gandy the owner of Bubba Gandy Seafood,” the Facebook post read. “It has come to my attention, as well as all of our Facebook friends, that the Owensboro Market is permanently closed. This is not the case. The Market will be closed for approximately one week due to restructuring. Bubba Gandy Seafood is looking forward to serving you the best and freshest seafood real soon.”

Gandy said that Sater, the owner of the Owensboro store, is a single mother with three small children that may have found herself a little bit overwhelmed with the responsibilities of being a small business owner.

After a discussion with Sater late last week, Chuck Gandy and his wife Chantel drove up this weekend from Panama City, Florida in order to discuss Sater’s obligations to her corporate contract and work on a buy-out agreement this morning. Sater made the Facebook announcement about the business closing shortly after the meeting.

Chuck and Chantel, who recently lost the building they ship food from in Panama City due to Hurricane Michael, wanted to ensure they made every effort to keep the Owensboro store operational.

The Gandys will be closing the business this week temporarily in order for it “to exchange hands.”

Chuck Gandy said they intend to reopen next Wednesday “with a whole new load of fresh seafood” and a new Wednesday through Saturday business schedule going forward.

Gandy said that the Owensboro location has been successful, averaging about $7,000 to $8,000 a week in sales, and they are eagerly looking for a new buyer for the Owensboro location. Until then, he said Owensboro residents should expect to see several Gandys running the store.

“We will be there around Thanksgiving,” Gandy said. “We will be in Owensboro to promote a good, successful thriving business to ensure people are getting the service and the seafood they need. We’re doing what we’ve got to do to hold this thing together and make it through the transition period.”

After being open just a little over two months, Bubba Gandy Seafood announced on Facebook Monday morning that they would be closing their doors. The business was opened on August 10 in Halifax Square by Owensboro businesswoman Carene Sater, and Chuck and Chantel Gandy, who have opened three previous Bubba Gandy Markets in Tennessee.

“Well Owensboro, it’s been fun,” the Facebook post said. “We are closing our doors due to lack of customers and inability to meet the brand owners demands. We tried our best and put our all into this so hopefully there is no hard feelings.”
