Jacob Reid has been named president of Independence Bank, following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps.

This announcement comes as Chris Reid, president of the bank since 1991, is celebrating his 60th birthday — in Spain, according to Jacob. But Jacob says he has been working in this role and learning from his father while preparing to become president, so he isn’t too worried to be at the helm.

In kindergarten, however, Jacob did not think about the banking world; he wanted to be a jet pilot. He went away for college and “felt lost” because he was not working at the bank, he said. He came home after one semester and has worked in banking ever since.

Jacob graduated with a business degree from Brescia University in 2004 and continued working at the bank. In 2012, Jacob completed an intensive three-year banking school program through Graduate School of Banking at Colorado.

Jacob has worked in several areas of the bank, including teller lines, information technology, secondary market and market development. He has served as executive vice president for the past three years, working alongside his father, Chris, in strategic decision making and market growth in preparation for the succession.

Jacob’s transition to the role of president will allow Chris to refocus his attention to areas of the business where his passion truly lies, including cultivating relationships with customers and potential customers in the communities Independence Bank serves.

Independence Bank believes in “getting out and getting involved,” Jacob said. And employees are also encouraged to get involved.

“I am very thankful for the opportunity I have had to learn from my father and grandfather, and to be able to step into this role at the bank they built together,” said Jacob. “The pulse of this organization is the people that make up the Independence Bank team. I am fortunate to be able to work with such a talented group of individuals, and I look forward to continuing to be a part of this team as we work to move the bank forward.”

Jacob is married to Bridget Reid who serves as the bank’s director of marketing. Together they have four daughters.
