Dr. Laura Richey is a veterinarian who has worked in Indiana and Kentucky since graduating from Purdue in 2005. Born and raised in Spencer County, Ind., she most recently was employed at Kentuckiana Animal Clinic but left two years ago to start her own clinic.

Richey researched the kind of clinic she would want, and what types of animals she would want to serve, and she decided on a 28-foot International truck for a mobile clinic.

“I have a friend in Indianapolis who did it,” Richey said.

Serving owners of mainly dogs and cats, Richey provides a low stress environment for both the pets and the owners. She also said she is able to develop relationships with owners and pets.

Richey is the only veterinarian on staff, but she has help from Dana Brown, a registered veterinary technician with many years of practice. Brown is also responsible for driving the truck.

Animal House Mobile Veterinarian offers wellness exams, vaccinations, sick pet exams, surgery options and dentistry — all from the comfort of the mobile clinic. Richey and Brown are also able to provide digital x-rays, anesthesia, routine blood work and mass removal all within the mobile clinic.

One of the services Richey prides herself on offering is hospice and palliative care for senior pets and in-home euthanasia.

“It is a big relief for the owner to have this private service offered at home,” Richey said.

Richey said her approach to mobile veterinary appointments has been well received in her home area of Spencer County, Ind., and that pet owners see a value in it.

“They don’t have to stress the pet out — and the owner — by putting them in a car and taking them to the vet where they may come in contact with another pet,” Richey said.

Richey expanded the service to include Evansville last year and now is opening it to Owensboro residents. She plans to be in the Owensboro area on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting in 2019, but owners can start requesting appointments now.

Services are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments can be requested at animalhousemobilevet.com or by calling 812-499-5800. More information is available on their webpage and Facebook page.
