Nicole Martin is a dedicated wife and mother of two. Serving as an educator in Daviess County for the past 16 years, she has encouraged students to follow their dreams in and out of the classroom. Embarking and following a dream of her own, Martin can now add the title of entrepreneur to her list of accomplishments.

As the owner of Jeweled Daisy, an online clothing boutique launched in June 2018, Martin has created a lucrative business of her own. Largely successful, Jeweled Daisy merchandise appeals to a vast group of consumers from the Owensboro region and beyond.

“I had been playing with the idea for many years,” Martin said. “I knew it needed to be something that was flexible and allowed me to still be a mom and an educator. I have always believed that I could do anything I put my mind to.”

Paying homage to both of her grandmothers, Martin opted to name her business Jeweled Daisy, a combination of the names of the two strong influences in her life.

“I have fond memories of shopping and spending time with both of them and I thought this would be a way to honor them,” Martin said. “They both were very driven and hardworking women, and I feel that I have inherited a lot of those characteristics.”

In addition to providing affordable and stylish women’s clothing and accessories, Jeweled Daisy prides itself on some unique features that set it apart from other private boutiques. Free shipping is available for all online orders, and flexible sizing from small to 3X accommodates diverse shopping needs.

“I try to find clothing that is great quality, unique and affordable,” Martin said. “I have been able to meet a lot of new people in this process. I love it when someone finds something they feel beautiful and confident in.”

Since Jeweled Daisy serves as both an online business and a mobile boutique, Martin has been able to “pop up” at many local salons and businesses.

Previous “pop up” business locations include Preservation Station and O.Z. Tyler Distillery, but Martin also will host private events. Traveling as far as Lexington and Nashville to sell her merchandise, Martin has no intention of slowing down any time soon.

“My mobile and online format make it easier for women who may not always be comfortable going out to shop. I have also found that when you pop up at a place they frequent like a business, salon, etc. that they are often more at ease shopping,” Martin said.

Martin enjoys going mobile as well for customers from Jeweled Daisy’s social media page.

“When I go mobile, people tend to shop in groups,” Martin said. “Who doesn’t love shopping with a group of friends?”

Future events for Jeweled Daisy are already set for this spring. They include Ladies’ Day Out at the Owensboro Convention Center, and a Fat Tuesday event, hosted by the White Chateau at Cecil Farms.

Reflecting back on the inspiration behind the birth of Jeweled Daisy, Martin is grateful for her success.

“It is a learning process. When I decided to act on this idea the pension issue had came to a head. I realized how nothing was guaranteed,” Martin said. “I have learned so much throughout the process. The best way to learn is to dig in and work at it. Owning a small business has helped me to appreciate them even more. I know that a purchase benefits a family.”
