The City’s annual surplus auction is set for Thursday, where residents can bid on and purchase hundreds of vehicles, appliances and pieces of equipment.

The surplus auction consists of items that have been used by departments within the City and other public agencies, or that have been seized by law enforcement. Along with the City of Owensboro, other agencies selling items include Regional Water Resource Agency (RWRA), Daviess County Board of Education, Owensboro Public Schools, Owensboro Riverport Authority, Owensboro Metropolitan Planning Commission and Owensboro Municipal Utilities.

Kurtz Auction & Realty will be hosting the event, beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursday. Items for sale range from mowers, trailers and lawn equipment to kitchen equipment, audio visual appliances, office equipment, residential vehicles and bicycles.

Pre-registration for the surplus auction begins Wednesday and runs from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Owensboro Sportscenter.

City of Owensboro Purchase Agent Kalyn Fox said people usually take a walkthrough on Wednesday to eye the items before bidding begins on Thursday.

“You can go ahead and pre-register and see what these products look like,” Fox said. “You don’t have to register by Wednesday — you can also register on Thursday, the day of the auction.”

Some of the items listed on Kurtz’s website include a John Deere Gator TS, a Titan paint machine, a 7-foot International rotary mower, cafeteria tables, gaming systems, CPR mannequins, TVs, kitchen utensils, mopeds, a bus with handicap access, around 20 different residential vehicles, 160-plus bicycles, plus many more.

Those wishing to bid and purchase items can pay with cash or checks made to City of Owensboro on the day of sale. All items sell “as-is, where-is” with no warranties.

Smaller items will be sold in the first hour, while major equipment, cars, trucks and vehicles will be auctioned starting at 11 a.m.

“Anything additional for the auction will be added to Kurtz’s website,” Fox said. “They’ll usually add some last-minute items.”

Concessions will also be available for purchase at the Sportscenter on Thursday, Fox said.
