Owensboro will soon only have one Hibbett Sports store. The store at 3500 Villa Point is closing its doors for good in early August after all its inventory is sold.
The sporting goods retailer announced in March its plan to close 95 stores. The Towne Square Mall location will remain open.
“There’s no official close date yet,” Scott Chandler, assistant manager, said. “When we sell everything, we will close. Right now there are some bare spots around the store where we are already selling inventory.”
He said Owensboro didn’t have enough interest to support two locations.
“Our store is not relocating, we’re just completely closing because there was not enough traffic out here,” Chandler said. “Currently, most items in the store are at 20-40 percent off.”
