The Owensboro Convention Center will host the Owensboro Artifacts Show next weekend, August 2-4. This event will feature hundreds of Native American-inspired collectibles, such as coins, knives, jewelry and fossils that will be up for sale.

Brandon Vanderver, who runs the event, said the artifacts show has a deep-rooted history in Owensboro. This will be Vanderver’s third year hosting it at the Owensboro Convention Center, but before that, the show took place at the Executive Inn for years.

“It was held 30 years before, except for a five-year span when the Big E closed,” he said.

The artifacts show has remained of interest to those in the local area over the years, Vanderver said.

“People come from Florida, Wisconsin and other states every year,” he said.

The event will have 406 different tables with vendors selling a variety of authentic items related to Native American culture, comprising thousands of different items that range from clothing to arrow heads. Some items are up to 1,200 years old, Vanderver said.

Vanderver, who’s from Evansville, said the annual artifacts show means a lot to him because of some personal memories he’s carried with him from childhood.

“I always hunted with my dad as a kid. That was something we both enjoyed,” he said. “I was hunting with him one day, and I found my first arrow head at six-years-old.”
