As Owensboro Police Department investigates a rash of break-ins targeting select businesses, another burglary occurred over the weekend. Savi Chic Boutique & Salon, located in the 2100 block of Triplett Street, marks the seventh hair salon or boutique to be burglarized in Owensboro since late May.

According to OPD police reports, this crime follows the same pattern of past burglaries. The most recent incident occurred during the night, and a glass window was shattered.

OPD received a call at 9:57 a.m. from one of the store’s employees about the burglary. According to surveillance cameras, the suspect entered Savi Chic some time between 2:32 and 3:02 a.m.

Nothing was reported stolen from inside the building, though OPD labeled the crime as a third-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief.

OPD Public Information Officer Andrew Boggess said while nighttime video footage makes it a little difficult to discern whether it’s the same individual committing these crimes, the suspect appears similar in the video footage captured thus far.

Other salons and boutiques that have been burglarized in recent weeks include All About You Salon & Spa, Allure Salon, Lavish Hair Studio, Visions Salon & Spa, Studio Slant and Serenity Place. So far, contents and cash totaling $1,593.12 have been reported stolen from these locations.

“We are encouraging business owners to be wary of leaving anything valuable in sight [after closing]. Cash and types of electronics, especially,” Boggess said.

Surveillance video footage of the suspect in question was posted to OPD’s Facebook account on July 4 and can be viewed here.
