Drew Aud started taking music lessons when he was just 8 years old and it didn’t take long for it to turn in to his passion. As a member of the local band Insulated, he has enjoyed the opportunity to play at Friday After 5, the International Bar-B-Q Festival, the Big O Music Fest and several local bars and clubs.

For the past five years, Aud worked as a manager and instrument technician at Owensboro Music Center. When the store’s owner, Gordy Wilcher, decided to sell the 46-year business, Aud said his expertise in the local music industry poised him to open his own store, Midtown Music.

“I saw an opportunity to fill a niche that wouldn’t be had without this new business,” said Aud. “It all happened so fast. My goal is to carry on everything I’ve known to work well while restructuring the things that don’t work as well.”

On Saturday, Midtown Music will host a grand opening at 2125 Triplett Street. Aud is offering giveaways, prizes, discounts and the chance to win an electric guitar.

According to Aud, his business will offer lessons including vocal, guitar and and a monthly bluegrass jam at the store. Acoustic guitars, electric guitars, keyboards, recording equipment, microphones, amps, custom built guitars and other musical accessories are a few of the products he will offer. Repair, sound installation and gear rentals will also be available.

“We have a great teaching staff covering a wide spectrum of instruments and musical knowledge,” Aud said. “Lessons will be by appointment or feel free to come in and meet us so we can set something up.”

Future goals for Aud include his desire to get involved with the local school systems, visiting students with the objective of growing interest in music programs. He says he loves to help others out and looks forward to serving the community.

“As I’ve grown up, I’ve made a lot of friends, whether hobby players or professional musicians,” Aud said. “My passion is helping musicians get what they need and get it in a timely manner. I look forward to doing that for my customers.”

Midtown Music will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.. For more information, contact Aud on Facebook or call 270-993-4567.
