Big ‘O’ccasion Yard Greetings, the large yard sign company that Liz Floyd brought to Owensboro last year, is now under new ownership; and the transaction happened over a birthday dinner.

Amy Krueger said that for a couple of years, she had been looking for part-time work that allowed her to still be a stay-at-home mom. She had helped Floyd a few times and each time, she said she really surprising people with the unique greetings.

During the dinner conversation, as Floyd talked about how overwhelmed she was with requests, along with her full-time job and three kids living at home, Krueger said that she wished she would let her take over.

“I think I caught her in a good mood,” Krueger said.

After Floyd asked if she was serious, and Kruger emphatically responded she was, Floyd called the franchise company and said she was selling it to Krueger.

“I hope I am so overwhelmed…right now I am just so excited,” Krueger said of the new business.

Kruger is quickly learning the business and how to place the signs in yards.

“There is so much more to it,” she said of learning to angle letters, and choosing tall versus short letters and graphics.

Kruger has been in contact with Floyd for the first few she has done to make sure she did them how Floyd would have. She has even FaceTimed with her to show her the end design for approval.

“If she didn’t know I would do such a good job, I don’t think she would have sold it,” Kruger said, calling the business Floyd’s “baby.”

Kruger is hoping to add more graphics to the customers’ choices, especially designs for local high schools. For now, she is just enjoying the job.

She said that everyone knows that she is superstitious from being with her at ballgames and elsewhere. Through her job search, she just kept saying she was looking for a sign.

“My sister said that I have found it…I literally have,” Kruger said.

Kruger is offering a new owner’s special for $75 and prefers to have 24 hours notice, but she will do them quicker, if available. She also prefers to place the signs before 10 p.m.
