Owner Chris Hamilton said he’s running the operation in a commercial setup at his home as a side gig, but he’s looking to have his own coffee shop one day.

Libertalia has also recently expanded to the Owensboro Regional Farmers Market.

“We are excited about bringing the taste of some of the bigger city cafes into a town that really is small and sweet,” said Hamilton, who moved to Owensboro with his family from the east coast four years ago.

He and his wife are looking to share the variety of specialty coffees that they experienced in cities like New York, Philadelphia and Chicago. The couple’s relationship blossomed and flourished in these cafes, Hamilton said, which is why they want to re-create the experience for friends and locals through coffee.

“We like to say that we’re dedicated to the flourishing of the human spirit and so we want to use coffee really as a context to try and achieve that,” he said. “That’s the reason behind everything that we do. We’re very much in the startup phase of what that looks like. But we’ve enjoyed being able to just create creative cafe related products that people have been able to enjoy.”

Hamilton said their service is like the “milkman in the good old days.”

Libertalia Coffee Company offers a delivery subscription service where people leave their empty glass containers on their porch, and they will swap it out after a new order.

“It’s a really exciting time in the specialty coffee world here in Owensboro, so I think we’re excited to cast our hat into that ring and have people share and enjoy the coffee that we provide,” he said.

Hamilton said the business has been years in the making and it started as a “hobby of coffee” conversations between him and his wife. When the couple purchased their first piece of commercial coffee equipment, that’s when they decided to make it a business.

Libertalia also delivers other products like coffee beans and specialty drinks.
