Owensboro’s newest micro venue opened for business Saturday. Named The Party Space Place, the business has been a years-long project and labor of love for one Owensboro family who wanted to create a space for those seeking a quality venue for smaller-scale events.

The  2,000 square-foot building, located at 5010 Wildcat Road, is equipped with two separate rooms, two small stages, a bar area, seating sections and freshly painted walls and hardwood floors.

According to Allyson Sanders, who co-owns the business with her twin sister Tina Forrest and Marshall Sanders, the venue was designed to be affordable for anyone and everyone without lacking the high-quality feel of more expensive spaces.

“The whole space is fully decorated. We wanted to make sure people felt like, even though they aren’t spending much, they feel like they’re spending a million bucks,” she said. “This is probably one of the most affordable venues in Owensboro.”

A two-hour reservation of the space would only cost $100, Sanders said. The family was able to keep prices lower by repurposing most of the space and its interior decor. A set of large art canvases were repurposed for a variety of wall decorations, including a painting of the state of Kentucky that was hung in one of the rooms.

Sanders’ daughters — ages 14 and 17 — jumped in to help run the business and get some real-world experience in their fields of interest. One will handle the marketing side of the business while the other will serve in an administrative role.

“The three of us basically run this place,” she said. “We’re proud of the fact that it’s family-owned. All of the adults work full-time, but it doesn’t feel like a second job.”

With the ability to hold 80 people at once, Sanders said The Party Space Place will be focused on smaller-sized events such as themed parties, karaoke, baby and wedding showers, and small-business events.

“Ever since COVID, it’s been emphasized that you want to have less people,” she said. “We want it to be everybody’s space. We have some beautiful places in Owensboro, and outside of Owensboro, but there’s nothing really right here that everyone can access.”

Those renting the venue can hire bartenders and caterers for their events. Sanders said the second room would be an ideal location to keep food or gifts stored so that people could enjoy the open area at the front of the building without having to worry about cleaning things up along the way.

Sanders said it felt good to open a business that was not only family-owned, but minority-owned and female-led.

“As far as female-led businesses that are unique in Owensboro, there’s not a lot. Or minority-owned businesses, there’s not a lot,” she said. “As you can see, we wanted to show Owensboro that there are other perspectives.”
